The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller

Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:

1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.

No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies. Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it.

But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?

My Review:

Out of many books I have read so far, there are only a few books that I wish it never ends. This is one such book and I can’t help falling in love with Tricia’s writing. This book was gripping from the very first line in the first chapter with a super badass protagonist. This is a first book that I read about a protagonist with a scheming mind and a genuine heart and I absolutely loved it.

Alessandra, the protagonist I have been talking about, has a mastermind and had a solution for every problem. But that’s not the only thing I love about her, I love her for being true to the one who trusts her and for not regretting what she had done in the past. Her dressing sense is so creative and I absolutely loved it. I love the way she cared for her friends. Even though she made friends with them for her own motives she never uses them and she never betrayed them.

Kallias, The Shadow King is no way lesser than Alessandra. He was as vicious as her. I love him for treating her as equal to himself and for accepting her with her past. I wish there were more chapters that includes Kallias conversing with Alessandra because I ship them so much. I love the little touch of fantasy in this book by adding the dark shadows that always surrounds the King.

I love this whole new term called “Slytherin Romance” the author had created, which is nothing but negative plus negative gives a positive result. Both of them are cunning and ambitious in their own way yet a perfect match for each other. The twist at the end is unpredictable and so much satisfying. I love the cover, I love the title and I LOVE THIS BOOK SO DAMN MUCH. Please do read this book. VERY SO DAMN HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
